Kitchen Assistant – Holland Park

Contract Position 3 months, 5 days a week, 35 hours per week

Meals on Wheels has operated successfully in the Aged Care Sector for over 70 years delivering nutritious and nourishing meals to those in need in our community to support independent living at home. Within the Brisbane South Aged Care Planning Region 11 Meals on Wheels services have amalgamated to become Meals on Wheels Brisbane South. Our region extends from Victoria Point in the East to Centenary in the West.

This 3-month contract role is located at our Holland Park service which is a production kitchen producing over 500 meals a day. This position would ideally suit someone who has worked in a busy kitchen environment. If you love helping a kitchen run smoothly and the production of meals, then apply now.

In this role you will be responsible for

Assisting with the meal preparation which may include ingredient preparation, making of sandwiches, plating items and sealing containers.
Other activities as directed by the Head Chef.
Receiving goods, checking goods and storing the items.
Cleaning and sanitising of the kitchen including equipment, benches and floors.
Undertaking duties in line with Food Safety guidelines.
Ensure the safe working conditions for all Staff and Volunteers through Workplace Health and Safety practices and advise the Head Chef of any issues.
About You

A qualification and/or experience in a commercial kitchen with an appropriate Food Safety Certificate or similar.
Demonstrated experience working as a member of a multi-disciplinary, collaborative team.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to plan, work and manage time with minimal supervision and under pressure, including the ability to discern priorities, plan ahead and coordinate with others to complete tasks.
Ability to pro-actively respond to changes including strong problem-solving skills and a flexible approach to diverse situations.
We start early, around 6:00 am and finish early, around 1:00 pm. No weekend work or night work.
