An opportunity has become available to join the Winnam Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders Corporation team as a Kitchen Hand on a casual basis at Georgina Hostel and Aged Care Facility located in Morningside, QLD.
ABOUT WINNAM ABORIGINAL AND TORRES STRAIT ISLANDERS CORPORATION
Winnam Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders Corporation (Winnam) is a community controlled not-for-profit organisation that is a holistic service provider for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community in the Wynnum and Bayside Suburbs of Brisbane, within the boundaries of Quandamooka country. Winnam has two main operations: community housing and aged care services.
Georgina Hostel and Aged Care Facility (Georgina) is a 24-bed facility owned and operated by Winnam Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders Corporation. Georgina Hostel offers both Permanent-Ageing in Place care along with respite care for both high and low care Indigenous Elders. Georgina Hostel operates under the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Flexible Aged Care Program (NATSIFACP) and provides flexible, culturally appropriate aged care to older Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people close to their home and/or community.
Our vision is to ensure residents have the highest quality of care, services, support, and facilities that meet the spiritual, cultural, physical, mental, and social needs of individual residents in a dignified, respectful, and professional manner. Our vision for the future is to expand our aged care services and facilities to meet the broader needs of our residents.
PURPOSE OF POSITION
The purpose of the Kitchen Hand is to deliver a quality food service for the residents of the facility ensuring dietary requirements are maintained as a priority under the assistance of Chef and or Cook. The Kitchen Hand must support the day-to-day operation of the Kitchen through food preparation and cleaning. The Kitchen Hand will also adhere to all Winnam Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders Corporation policies and procedures, and legislative food hygiene requirements under the Single Quality Aged Care Quality Framework.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
To be considered for this role, you must submit a resume and cover letter identifying the following skills and experience:
- Organise food handling and meal preparation.
- Assist the Cook and the Chef in food preparation and the menu requirements and cooking when required.
- Clean and maintain all kitchen appliances (e.g., cleaning benches, floors, pantries, cold rooms, freezers, kitchen machinery equipment, cleaning utensils and dishes, disposing waste and maintaining a tidy manner of other kitchen areas within the facility).
- Administration kitchen duties (e.g., record keeping, temperature checks, emails and general administrative duties).
- Positively and professionally supporting and promoting the facility and organisation.
- Embracing and implementing the values, ethics, code of conduct, policies, protocols and procedures of the organisation and facility.
- Maintaining a high level of honesty, integrity and courtesy when dealing with residents, stakeholders, staff, and colleagues.
- Maintaining confidentiality and privacy, organisationally, throughout the facility and with record to regards to residents and stakeholders.
- Attending and participating in meetings, planning and implementation forums and conferences as relevant to their role within the organisation.
- Attending or participating in training/professional development sessions as mandated or required and as relevant to their role. Training needs are identified through performance of the role and the annual training needs analysis.
- Maintaining a work environment that meets the organisational and legislative standards for presentation, cleanliness and safety for residents and stakeholders.
- Work reflectively and progressively to provide opportunities for ongoing development, innovation, and enhanced service delivery – continuous improvement.
- Adopting a flexible approach to agreed hours of employment as required whilst ensuring all tasks and functions are completed within mutually agreed timeframe.
- Continually maintain high-quality hygiene standards.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED BEFORE YOU APPLY
- Commercial kitchen experience is desirable.
- Current or willing to obtain current Food Handling Certificate.
- Experience in a hygiene-controlled environment.
- Knowledge of food hygiene control.
- Knowledge of cleaning products.
- You must have a current National Police Check.
- A current Blue Card.
- Provide evidence of Influenza and COVID-19 Vaccinations including mandatory boosters.
- Current First Aid and CPR Certificate.
- Work a 24/7 roster.
- Have the right to work in Australia.

To ensure the health and safety of our residents we serve at Georgina Hostel and Aged Care Facility, all staff are required to comply with statutory and Government requirements, such as public health directions, and Winnam’s vaccination policy requirements, with respect to COVID-19 and Influenza vaccinations. The successful applicant must be able to meet Winnam’s mandate of receiving all recommended doses of approved COVID-19 vaccines (including boosters) approved by the Therapeutic Goods Administration and the provision of COVID-19 and Influenza Certificates before commencing employment.
